Entrepreneurship Camp (July 8 - 12)

Entrepreneurship Camp (July 8 - 12)

Monday: July 8, 2019

We have a fantastic bunch of kids this week.  Uber Talented and FULL OF IDEAS!!

We spent the day learning how to start a business. They will be starting a lemonade stand and collectively decided the following:

  • The name of the stand is "More than a Lemon"
  • The tagline is "When Life gives you Lemons, DONATE!"
  • 50% of all proceeds will be given to Princess Margaret Hospital
  • They created their own Logo (see image below)
  • They also worked as a group to put together their own Go Fund Me video where they realized they needed $65 to start their lemonade stand.

I am really impressed with how much they did today!

For Parents:

VERY Important:  Please share the Go Fund Me Campaign with your social network.  The link is here: https://www.gofundme.com/more-than-a-lemon

Save the Date!  On Friday @2pm our Lemonade Stand will open at 1399 Bayview Ave.  Please bring all your friends, family, neighbours, people you meet walking your dog, literally everyone and join us!

Send an old white t-shirt with them.  On Wednesday we will be making their uniforms for the lemonade stand.  They will be making brightly coloured tie-dye t-shirts.  Please send any OLD White cotton t-shirt with them.  Also please send clothes they can get dirty in as dye has a way of showing up everywhere.

For Ryan:  The other kids will help him with the tie-dye since he won't be able to do it with one hand.

Wow! What a packed day we have had.

We have reached our GO FUND ME campaign mark so the kids are super excited about it!

The kids took all the pointers given yesterday and brought their stand and their sales pitch up to a whole new level!

Here are only SOME of the things we did:

1) Kids created 2 social media posts that were shared on Instagram, Facebook and Linkedin.   FOLLOW THEM!!

Instagram=@explorerhop,

Facebook= @explorerhop,

Linkedin=Hasina Lookman

2) Created a web page where you can PRE-ORDER a glass of Lemonade.  It's currently only $1 online.  Make sure you place your orders today! To place your order click here

3) Made another 15 second video, this time using some really neat marketing techniques - it's all on the social media links above. Please COMMENT as they love reading them.

4) Tomorrow we will be doing a trial lemonade stand pitch and the kids will be at the intersection of Bayview (but still on church property) to sell lemonade. The goal is to get them comfortable with selling to others.  Adult supervision will be there at all times. Our outdoor stall will be from 2.30-3.30pm.

Another great day.  We had a goal of selling 10 lemonades and we made it!  Wow they were all amazing.

Today, the kids made $10 for themselves ($1.25 each) and raised $49.55 for Princess Margaret.  Fantastic!

WOW!  What a packed day it was!

Here's just some of the things we did today:

  1. Made Tie-Dye Shirts - they turned out FANTASTIC and the kids will wear them tomorrow.
  2. Went to all the businesses on Bayview telling them about our camp.  The kids did amazing sales pitches and we are hoping to have a good turnout tomorrow.
  3. Our Sales team convinced Value-Mart to donate lemons.
  4. The kids learnt how important it is to build Awareness of their Lemonade Stand. I can tell you that businesses around us were totally blown away by their sales pitch!
  5. Our camp counsellor came up with the idea of using left over peel to make Candied Lemon Peel so that's what we did!  We now have a whole new product!

Parents:

What an absolutely amazing bunch of kids to work with! This camp has been one of my most favourite ones to date!

Here’s a recap of what we did:

1) We went up and down spreading the word and even wrote on the sidewalk with arrows pointing to our lemonade stall!

2) The truly awesome manager at Value Mart was kind enough to give us all the cups we needed for our lemonade stand.

3) The kids scored 50 take out containers from Epi Breads for the Mega Classic drinks.

4) We got tweeted by the South Bayview Bulldog on-line journal

5) Robert Oliphant, Member of Parliament came to meet the kids

6) We had amazing ideas contributed by parents  to improve our sales strategy, and it was just brilliant how cars and strangers would come by and buy our lemonade

7) We ran out of lemonade! A total of about 40 litres of lemonade has been made this week! Lol!

8) The kids raised $547 in total!  This is a new record for an ExplorerHop camp! Each kid took $39 as the portion they earned and the rest has already been sent to Princess Margaret Cancer Fund.

Such amazing kids!  It has really been a privilege to work with them this week!
