Madelyn Patterson (Age 12)
Our dynamic Young Investor Madelyn, has already made a name for herself at Explorer Hop. Over summer, she became the first girl to win the investment challenge at Camp Millionaire Level 1
and was an incredible source of inspiration to her camp buddies.
How did you hear about the Investment Competition?
I found out about the investing competition from my mom. It started in the summer of 2020 when my mom enrolled me in Camp Millionaire Level 1. I was hesitant for that camp at first because I didn't even know what investing was, but after that camp I was addicted to watching the stock market!
How much investing experience do you have?
I have a bit of investing experience since the summer and I have accumulated some knowledge and skills over the past 6 months. I’m still a beginner, but I am hoping to learn and gain more investing experience in the next couple of months.
What are you hoping to get from participating in the competition?
So far in this competition, I have been following companies a lot more closely by reading the news. It has been really helpful.
What would you say to inspire other kids to learn about investing?
To the other kids out there that would like to learn about investing: you’re gonna win some and you're gonna lose some. Investing is simply putting your money into a company that you trust and hoping they will do something amazing (make a lot of money for their shareholders - us!)
What other hobbies do you have?
My hobbies include piano and sports. I love playing sports especially baseball, volleyball, and taekwondo, but unfortunately due to COVID-19 I'm no longer able to participate in those activities as I usually would. I like to play the piano and compete in competitions. Two years ago I was placed 2nd in a competition and as a reward, I got to play at Carnegie Hall! It was so fun and memorable, but nerve-wracking, just like investing!
