Our partnership with The Giles School started nearly 15 years ago, when our co-founder was a student there. It’s a school that truly stands out. As one of only a handful of UNESCO schools around the world, it's academic strength is established, in addition, it offers something special that’s different from the rest. So when the principal, Mme. Bernaba, asked us to integrate our financial literacy programs into the curriculum, we knew it was a perfect fit!
Here’s what we’ve seen:
Investing Program with Grade 5 Students: Students at Giles followed the Camp Millionaire Level 1 program. Giles’ tri-lingual curriculum (English, French, and either Spanish or Mandarin) gives their students an incredible global perspective. This isn’t just about language; it’s about understanding the world in a deeper, more connected way. When students are taught about global events and companies, they become more intuitive, smart investors. By integrating our Camp Millionaire Level 1 program into the school day, we connected real-world financial knowledge to their math and global studies, helping students see how what they learn shapes the world around them.
Personal Finance with Grade 4 Students: In Grade 4, students go beyond the basics of saving and budgeting—they learn how financial concepts directly impact everyday life. From insurance to mortgages, they’re understanding topics that most kids won’t encounter for years. They also learn about identity theft before they even have a phone, giving them a head start on protecting themselves in the digital world. This prepares them to make informed choices, helping them navigate life’s complexities with confidence.
So, why should other schools consider adding our programs to their curriculum?
- Financial literacy is a life skill: It shapes how students engage with the world, preparing them for real-life challenges.
- Critical advantage for students: Schools can empower students with knowledge that goes beyond the basics, equipping them to thrive in today’s fast-paced, interconnected society.
- Proven success at The Giles School: Our experience shows how integrating financial literacy into the curriculum transforms the student experience, helping them grasp complex financial concepts.
- Empowered decision-making: When students understand the role of money in their lives and the global economy, they gain the confidence to make informed, responsible choices.
- Benefit for schools: By offering financial literacy education, schools provide a vital tool that enriches students' futures and better prepares them for the world ahead.
This is an opportunity for other schools to do the same and elevate their students’ education in a meaningful way. By incorporating financial literacy programs, schools can equip their students with lifelong skills that prepare them for success in a fast-changing world. It’s about giving students the tools to be not just learners, but future leaders in their communities and beyond—something Giles recognized years ago and continues to prioritize today.
