Proposal for Summit Heights School Wide Entrepreneurship Program: “From Idea to Marketplace”

Program Overview

This program introduces students in Grades 1-8 to entrepreneurship through age-appropriate activities. It culminates in exciting Market Days, where students sell their goods or services to the school and local community.

Role of Consultant

The Consultant will focus on  how to balance student learning with the event’s success. The goal is by focusing on a hands-on, age-appropriate approach, to deliver a memorable and educational experience for everyone involved.

Basic Package (approximately 20 hours) 

Event Design and Vision Creation

  • Theme and Concept: Choose a theme and define how the program aligns with school goals.
  • Event Components: Decide what’s included in Market Days:
    • Booths for student businesses.
    • Live demonstrations or performances
    • Interactive activities for visitors (e.g., Vote for best booth)
  • Grade-Level Differentiation:
    • Ensure activities are appropriate to varying age groups. 
    • Grades 1-3: Craft-based, simple products (e.g., bookmarks, lemonade).
    • Grades 4-6: More creative products with basic pricing strategies.
    • Grades 7-8: Complex goods/services with detailed budgets and marketing plans.
  • Charity/ Community Element: Work with Parent Council to determine what organization the funds raised should be sent to or if it should be diverted to the school for school use. 
  • Parent Volunteer Coordination:
    • Define clear roles for parent volunteers and provide training sessions or guides.(2 hours)
    • Assign tasks to parents based on their skills or interests, ensuring smooth execution

Education Add-on Package (approximately 30 hours) 

Curriculum Development

  • Design age-appropriate activities for teaching entrepreneurship basics, such as:
    • Aligning Entrepreneurship Activities with TDSB Curriculum (Grades 1-8) -providing direction to teachers which does not add additional work on them. 
    • Brainstorming & Ideation: Fun exercises to generate ideas (e.g., “What’s a problem you can solve?”).
    • Run programs for each class to include:
      • Prototyping & Production: Guided workshops to help students create their goods or services 
      • Marketing: Lessons on branding, designing posters
      • Finance: Teach pricing, budgeting, and simple bookkeeping.
      • Operations: High level task management 

Event Day Execution (approximately 10 hours) 

Event Planning and Execution

  • Booth Setup: Design layouts for Market Days, ensuring space for booths, visitor pathways, and activity zones.
  • Supplies and Materials: Prepare a list of materials for production, decorations, and logistical needs.
  • Market Day Flow: Plan the schedule, including:
    • Setup and teardown times.
    • Designated day / time slots for each grade level and business to sell.
    • Activities like award presentations or community guest speakers.
  • Post-Event Wrap-Up
    • Host reflection sessions with teachers and students to gather feedback. (2 hours)
    • Write a post-event summary report to showcase the event’s success.

Parent Volunteers’ Tasks

Parent volunteers are hands-on helpers, focusing on execution and student support. This project will require quite a bit of hands-on parent involvement especially in the lower grades and with generally assisting younger students.  A list of tasks will be provided to the Parent Council as part of the Basic Package. 


Overview of costs and billing methodology. 

  • Our rate is $100/hr. (We normally charge $250/hr. to which a TDSB discount of 60% is applied)
  • The school is billed by the hour for time spent working on the project with a minimum allocation of 1 hour.  (I.e.. the minimum we charge is 1 hour)
  • Hours need to be pre-purchased and a retainer of 10 hours is requested.
