The 3 Most Important Social Media Apps To Be On Today

There are so many different social media platforms on the internet today. Whether they are intended for entertainment, learning or fun, social media is an inescapable part of the modern online landscape. 3.78 billion people used one social media platform or another in 2021.

Can you, as an adult, tell us the first five platforms that come to mind when you see the words “social media”? 

We’re willing to bet your child can fire off the names of at least 10 in as many seconds if you played this game with them. 

Your children may currently be more or less aware of the power of social media than you, but as they grow up, they will undoubtedly need to be on social media in some form or fashion – whether it’s for personal or professional use. 

In fact, we would recommend bringing them over to where you are now and sitting them down as you read this together, because it will be helpful to both you and your child to read our list of the top three most important social media apps to be on today.

1. TikTok

Some outlets project a user base of over 1.5 billion in 2022. Other outlets project TikTok to become the third-largest social network by monthly users this year. It’s unmistakable how powerful and widespread TikTok has become after being founded in 2016 but really only seeing a boom in 2018 or so. 

There’s no denying the presence that TikTok currently has within the social media ecosystem, and nothing exists that would suggest this trajectory is poised to slow down. In fact, we’re willing to bet that there’s at least some chance your child is either scrolling TikTok or recording their own right now if you didn’t take our advice to sit them down and read this blog with them.

Jokes aside, the growth of TikTok has even convinced many of the biggest corporations in the world to make accounts and make their brands active participants on the platform, speaking profoundly to why TikTok is one of the most important social media apps out today. 

2. YouTube

The second largest search engine in the world has to have some spot on this list, right? That’s exactly what YouTube is, and that’s why it takes this spot on our list.

Most, if not all, successful brands and companies have some kind of YouTube presence and it is proving to pay dividends with a reported 845 million monthly active users on the Iphone and Ipad alone.

The user base of this app and its position next to Google as an important part of not only social media today but also the internet in its entirety, makes YouTube a platform that is more than worthy of being on this list. 

3. Facebook

Facebook’s sheer strength in terms of users is why it is on this list. Year after year, no matter how much we want to think that Facebook is giving way to other social media platforms, the social media giant continues to rank at the top of any list for biggest social media apps today. 

You might say that Facebook is for an older crowd or that Facebook is dying (if, you know, you still want to try and defend that position despite the numbers) but we challenge you to find one successful company that has turned its nose up at Facebook completely and still prospered to the extent that companies with Facebook presences have.

Facebook, as of Q2 in 2021, has roughly 2.89 billion monthly active users. That’s just not a number we are willing to ignore and we don’t think you should either.
